According to written sources, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, who annexed the region to Ottoman lands in 1461, went to the Kadırga Plateau to visit a friend's grave. Wishing to perform the Friday prayer on the plateau, the Sultan had the chosen area enclosed with stones, and the Friday prayer was performed there. For many years the local people have visited this open-air place of worship on the third Friday of July and performed the Friday prayer here. Today two minarets have been built within the area, which is enclosed by a low wall, and the tradition still continues.
