Editor's Note
The Amasya Clock Tower was built in 1865 by the poet Ziya Paşa, governor (mutasarrıf) of Amasya. Shortly after it was first built it was damaged by fire, and in 1940 it was demolished. The present structure was rebuilt true to the original in 2002. The tower has a square-plan base, a cylindrical body and is made of regular cut stone. At its top there is a wooden lantern-shaped section. Built in the form of a minaret, the tower stands out with its clock faces and large windows. 1
