Taceddin Altunbaş was the son of Gıyaseddin Mesud II, the last Seljuk sultan, and is also known as Gazi Çelebi. Some historians state that after his father's death, Altunbaş was appointed by the Ilkhanid ruler Olcayto to the Simre governorship near Amasya. [1] The madrasa and tomb are located in Amasya's central Dere quarter, formerly called Uzun Mustafa, on Arasta Street, at block 211, parcel 22. The site where the madrasa ruins lie has been covered over with earth, and today the area is used as a car park.
