Alçak Köprü

Editor's Note

Alçak Köprü (the Low Bridge) spans the Yeşilırmak in the centre of Amasya, linking Amasya Castle to districts to the south. It is the only bridge in Amasya surviving from the Roman period and is built entirely of cut stone. As the riverbed of the Yeşilırmak silted up over time, the bridge's clearance dropped, which is how it came to be called the Low Bridge.
