Editor's Note
The mosque in Karamustafa Paşa Village of the Merzifon district was commissioned in the 17th century by Abide Hatun, the mother of Kara Mustafa Paşa. Standing on a hill within the village, the Abide Hatun Mosque has a notably regular rectangular plan. On its north facade is a wooden-ceilinged portico (son cemaat yeri). The most striking feature of the mosque is its interior woodwork painting, among the finest examples of its kind. The interior's beamed wooden ceiling, the spaces between the beams, and the ceiling of the women's gallery in the north, carried by a thick beam, are all colorfully adorned with plant and floral motifs.
