The village of Samadolu (today called Yolüstü) and its surroundings, within the Merzifon district of Amasya province, have a rich archaeological past and entered the scholarly literature mainly through surface surveys carried out in the late 1990s. Located about 3 kilometers along the Gümüşhacıköy road and 1.5 km south of the village, Samadolu Höyük is a settlement mound about 15 meters high and measuring 100 by 70 meters.
