Editor's Note
The Güvem Bridge was the work of the master builder Hakkı Demir. He built it between 1950 and 1955 with the help of two friends known as Uzun Hasan and Elekci Hasan. The bridge was built so that the village could reach the Tuesday market held in Çerkeş, because it lay on the route of merchants and customers from Bartın and Karabük, and also so that the villagers could reach their fields and gardens on the other side of the stream. The cost of the bridge was covered entirely by Hakkı Demir, who built it as a charitable work.
