The place known as Paphlagonian Hadrianopolis lies today scattered across the area around the locality called Viranşehir, about 3 kilometers west of the center of Eskipazar district in Karabük Province, and the surrounding land. The ancient city of Hadrianopolis spans the villages of Budaklar, Büyükyaylalar, Çaylı and Beytarla. The city's ruins are concentrated in the Hacı Ahmetler neighborhood of Budaklar village, and this spot is called Viranşehir. Until now, little attention has been paid to the socio-economic structure, cultural history and archaeology of northwestern Anatolia in classical antiquity.
