Editor's Note
According to foundation (vakıf) records, the mosque is understood to have been commissioned in the 16th century by Şemsi Ahmet Paşa, a descendant of Kızıl Ahmed Bey, but with the repairs it has undergone over time it has largely lost its originality. It has a painted wooden ceiling dating from the reign of Abdülhamid II. The body walls of the rectangular mosque are built in alternating courses of four rows of brick and one row of stone. Besides the horizontal brick courses, bricks were also placed vertically between the stones, enclosing the stones within brick frames. In the middle of the north facade is an entrance space that was evidently closed off later.
