Editor's Note

In 1925, the Cumhuriyet primary school was opened in the existing church building on what is today the plot in Avcılar Street, Orta neighborhood, and years later a school building was constructed on the same site and education continued. The school building was severely damaged in the Marmara earthquake of 17 August 1999 and was later demolished; a 12-classroom prefabricated building was then erected in the schoolyard, and from 2000 the Cumhuriyet Primary School continued to serve in the prefabricated building.
