Editor's Note
Commissioned in 1892 by Peruste Rahime Sultan, the wife of Abdülmecit, this mosque in Sapanca's Uzunkum stands directly behind the Uzunkum Village Primary School. Built of rubble stone and brick, its front facade features arched windows. The minaret collapsed in the earthquake of 17 August 1999 and was later rebuilt. The Rahime Sultan Mosque is domed and its interior is adorned with carvings; today it is among the few mosques that have preserved their original form.
