It is located within the village of Kaymaz in the Kandira district of Kocaeli province. According to information Ekrem Hakki Ayverdi obtained in his fieldwork in the 1970s from residents of Kaymaz village (formerly named Araman), the mosque that stood here until 1935 had long been known as the Sultan Orhan Mosque. It is likewise reported that the original mosque was burned by the Greeks during the War of Independence, and that a masonry mosque later built on the same site burned down entirely, except for its minaret, in 1950.
