Editor's Note

Realized as the result of a competition held in 1935, the Cebeci Modern Cemetery reflects the modernizing thought of the period through its design, which rejected hierarchy and offered an alternative to traditional practices. The main feature that stands out in the cemetery's design is the axial walkways that meet at a circular plaza. The cemetery is also notable for foregrounding greenery in the steppe environment of Central Anatolia. In addition to Muslim sections, it contains Christian and Jewish sections. It was completed in 1938.
