Editor's Note
Behind Esen Park in the Samanpazarı district, until two months before the date of our survey, hundreds of candles were being lit at and all around a grave. This grave is surrounded by houses and lies within the gardens of several of them. The neighbours feel love and respect for this venerated saint and are pleased by their closeness to the Dede. Because of the fire risk, on the fire brigade's application, an attempt was made to stop the candle votives. By order of the official authorities, the round stones at the head and foot of the Tezveren Dede grave (Photograph 10) were removed and set aside.
