Story
Preserved in Eskişehir's Odunpazarı district, these historic houses present some of the finest examples of 19th-century Ottoman-Republican-era architecture. Each of the wooden and stone houses lining the narrow streets is full of details in its windows, doors, and interiors that reflect the lifestyle of that era. Serving as museums, these spaces welcome visitors with rich collections showcasing Anatolia's local artists and traditional crafts. Ethnographic objects, household items, and handicraft products document the cultural richness of Odunpazarı. Temporary exhibitions, meanwhile, highlight the region's artistic vitality. An interesting detail is the Western influence visible in the architectural elements of the houses; it is possible to observe how the Republican era's efforts at modernization were reflected in Anatolia. The district is also the historic neighborhood where the timber trade was conducted in the late Ottoman period. During your visit, explore the narrow streets and observe the home designs of different generations; in every house there is a story of time and the transformation of Eskişehir.
