The Mimar Sinan Monument is a marble statue of the great Turkish architect Sinan, located in the garden of the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography, and is the first monument dedicated to Sinan. It was commissioned in 1956 from sculptor Hüseyin Anka Özkan by the Turkish Real Estate and Credit Bank, its making having been a bequest of Atatürk. The statue weighs about 7 tons and stands 4.30 metres tall, with an inscription reading 'Architect Koca Sinan 1490-1588' on its marble base.
