Editor's Note
Known as the Mekteb-i Sanayi or the Hamidî Sanayi Mektebi (School of Industry), the building opened in 1905. Run by the Special Provincial Administration from 1923 onward, the school housed the Ministry of National Defence in the early years of the Republic. For a time it also served as a prison.
