Editor's Note
The competition the Pension Fund held between 10 August 1952 and 9 February 1953 for the design of the Business Centre and the arrangement of Ulus Square was won by Orhan Bozkurt, Orhan Bolak and Gazanfer Beken. The buildings erected from the resulting project, together with the statue of 1927, made Ulus Square a true "square." After the First and Second National Architecture movements that held sway until the 1950s, it created in Ankara an effect akin to that of the Istanbul Hilton Hotel, with its uncompromisingly modern lines.
