During the foundation excavation for the State Railways General Directorate building, on the corner toward the railway station where Hipodrom Avenue meets Kâzım Karabekir Avenue, two Early Byzantine monumental tombs dating to the third or fourth century were discovered by chance; one of them (Figure 30) was moved to the Roman Baths site for preservation in 1939 and is displayed there (Kadıoğlu and Görkay, 2007). Measuring 4×4 m, it is a cross-shaped family tomb on a square plan, its interior decorated with frescoes.
