Editor's Note

Built between 1930 and 1931, the building was designed by architect Clemens Holzmeister. Standing on Atatürk Boulevard, it consists of a U-shaped main mass of three storeys above the ground floor, with one of the arms of the U extended in an east–west direction. In its original state, this extended part consisted of a terrace floor over the ground level. The ground floor houses shared spaces such as shops, a restaurant and a club. On the upper floors, guest rooms with bathrooms are lined up along a corridor. The flat surface of the first floor gives way on the second floor to recessed balconies.
