Of the nine projects submitted to the architectural competition held in 1934, three—bearing the signatures of Bekir İhsan (Ünal), Abidin (Mortaş) and (Hüseyin) Hüsnü (Tümer)—advanced to the next stage after the jury members architect Semih Rüstem (Temel), engineer İrfan and architect Cemal Bey eliminated the rest. The building was constructed on Yenişehir Avenue (Atatürk Boulevard) according to Hüseyin Hüsnü Tümer's project. With minor changes during construction, the building was completed in 1936.
