Editor's Note
Its architect was Clemens Holzmeister. In the Vakit newspaper, an article headed "At the Opening of the New Public Works Building in Ankara" spoke of the structure thus: "In a new style, light-filled and spotless. A palace redolent of novelty and freshness: the Ministry of Public Works." The building consists of two four-storey blocks set perpendicular to the avenue, a horizontal block of a ground floor plus two storeys connecting them, and a central mass containing the main entrance. Besides the stepped main entrance in the projecting central block, the building can also be entered from the tall blocks. Past the central entrance, a marble staircase leads up from the marble-clad lobby to the minister's office and the ceremonial hall.
