Editor's Note
Its architect was Clemens Holzmeister. With a law approved on 11 January 1937, the Turkish Grand National Assembly resolved to build in Ankara a parliament building that would be "…a monument perfect in its style and harmonious in its exterior, embodying the requirements of the twentieth century and the existence of the Republic of Turkey," and put the project out to competition. The competition, which drew fourteen entries, concluded on 28 January 1938, with the jury selecting three designs it deemed worthy of first place. Of these, it was Holzmeister's project that Atatürk wished to see built.
