Editor's Note

The neighborhood was built by Paul Bonatz between 1933 and 1935. Begun under the Civil Servants' Housing Law enacted in 1944 to relieve Ankara's housing crisis, this residential group constitutes an important example of the Second National Architecture Movement in the capital. In this settlement, where the architect sought to introduce the 1920s German Siedlung concept, he designed—alongside the housing blocks—a children's playground, a primary and middle school, and the social building of the time, which serves today as the Provincial Public Library, for communal use.
