Editor's Note
The Atatürk Forest Farm Zoo was established in 1933 within the Atatürk Forest Farm to display animals harmful to agriculture and the public. After it drew great public interest, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk directed the agriculture minister of the time to create a modern, well-organised zoo, with the project drawn up by Necdet Pençe of the Gazi Teacher Training Institute. The present-day zoo opened on 29 October 1940.
