Hasan Basrî (Taptuk) Baba Erenler was born in 1874 in Üsküdar, Istanbul. By lineage he was a Seyyid (descendant of the Prophet). He completed the îdâdî education, equivalent to today's high school. He joined the Kâdirî, Rufâi, Nakşî, and Uşşâkî orders, even sitting on the sheikh's post in some of them, and during this time made journeys that occasionally lasted years; finally, receiving his initiation from Hüsnü Baba, he joined the Nâzenin path (the Bektashi order). In Istanbul's Grand Bazaar he also worked as a yağlıkçı, that is, a handkerchief merchant…
