Editor's Note
The complex commissioned by Grand Vizier Rüstem Pasha consists of a mosque, madrasa, library, double bath, covered market, caravanserai, and soup kitchen. Since only the mosque, madrasa, soup kitchen, and caravanserai are recorded among the works of Mimar Sinan in the Tezkiretü'l-ebniye, Tezkiretü'l-bünyan, Tuhfetü'l-mi'mârîn, and the Anonymous Treatise, it is thought that not all of the complex's structures were built by him and that they were completed at different times. Of all the buildings, information on the mosque's date and patron comes only from the two inscriptions on its main portal.
