Editor's Note
The Rüstem Pasha Complex in Tekirdağ, a 16th-century work, consisted of a mosque, a madrasa, a library, a double bath, a covered market (bedesten), a caravanserai and a public soup kitchen. However, the Tezkiretü'l-ebniye, Tezkiretü'l-bünyan and Tuhfetü'l-mi'mârîn, along with the Anonymous Treatise that record Mimar Sinan's works, mention only the mosque, madrasa, soup kitchen and caravanserai among these. It is therefore thought that not all the units making up the complex were built by him and that additions were made at different times. Today, apart from the mosque and the bedesten, the structures have partly or wholly disappeared.
