Rum Çeşmesi, Uçmakdere

Editor's Note

It stands beside the Monumental Plane Tree within the Uçmakdere quarter of the Şarköy district in Tekirdağ province. The fountain, no longer in use today, is half-buried as it has sunk underground. Built using stream stone, thin brick and horasan mortar, it once bore a Greek inscription that has not survived. That inscription read: "Athonis made the work of Athimos, adorned with blooming flowers. As you can see, this work was made entirely as a donation. / Stranger: Reflect on the joy and merit gained from the building of this fountain (made by Athimos)."
