Located in the market area of central Malkara, in Tekirdağ province, the building was constructed in 893 (1488), according to the four-line thuluth inscription above its main doorway. Its founder was Ömer Bey, son of Gazi Turahan Bey, one of the Ottoman raider lords. Turahan Bey had pious foundations in many parts of Thrace, some of which consisted of land, shops and mills in Malkara. The mosque and madrasa that he also built in Malkara have not survived.
