Editor's Note
In the second half of the 19th century, and especially after the Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-78, mosques with attached schools were built by the state between 1900 and 1905 through the Imperial Estates (Emlak-ı Hümayun), to meet the religious needs of the migrants arriving from the Balkans and to educate their children. Most of the mosques in the region were among these, built anew on a single standard plan. The Karaağaç Village Mosque was likewise built to the same plan and specifications.
