Editor's Note
Ainos was an ancient Greek city near present-day Enez in Edirne Province. It lay west of the Gulf of Saros, just south of the mouth of the Meriç (Maritsa) River. The city had two harbours, which over time silted up with alluvium carried by the river and became the lakes now known as Dalyan and Taşaltı; the site today lies about 3.5 km inland from the coast.
