Editor's Note
The Gursu Orta Mosque on Fatih Street in the Istiklal neighborhood was used as a church by the Greeks. Its church era ended in 1924, and it was converted into a mosque in 1950. During this period the church was converted into the mosque in 1950 with the contributions of the late Kadir Akbas and Mehmet Tunc, Turks who had come from Western Thrace, along with the people of Gursu and charitable citizens.
