Editor's Note
Soup kitchen (imaret). There is a fairly large building behind the mosque on its qibla side. Ayverdi regards it as a tabhane-zaviye (hospice). But since the tabhane cells are inside the mosque, this must be the soup kitchen-imaret that met the food needs of the complex. The building is L-shaped, with its long arm running parallel to the side wall of the mosque. It has a courtyard in its center. The six-line inscription above its door states that Abdulhamid II had this imaret rebuilt "anew" on 12 Receb 1324 (1 September 1906). It is understood that this building, along with the complex's other buildings, was renovated at that time.
