Editor's Note
Various sources state that on the site where the Eski Kaplica (also known as the Armutlu Bath), one of Bursa's largest thermal baths, was built, there used to be the remains of a Byzantine bath. Built by Murad I in 1394 as a double bath, the building had a cooling section added in 1511 by Bayezid II. The building's walls are made of stone and brick. The cooling section, with a large ablution fountain in its center, is covered by a dome. Beneath this section is a basement thought to have been used as a cellar or a stable.
