Editor's Note
The Meyhaneli (Tavuk Pazarı) Bath, located on Cumhuriyet Avenue beside the Pirinç Han, was built in 1426 by Sultan Murad II to provide income for the Muradiye Mosque and soup kitchen. The Meyhaneli Bath took its name from being used for a time as a wine house (şaraphane); 'Tavuk Pazarı' (Poultry Market) is the name of the bazaar district in which it stands. It is of the double-bath plan type. During road construction the cooling rooms of both the women's and men's sections were entirely demolished. Built with masonry of two rows of rubble stone alternating with one row of brick, the building's domes are covered with traditional pantiles.
