Editor's Note
On April 6, 1326, Orhan Bey and his Turkmens entered Bursa through this gate. For this reason it was called the "Conquest Gate" (Fetih Kapısı). Because many springs originating from Mount Uludağ lay in front of this gate, it is also known as the "Pınarbaşı Gate" or the "Water Gate." In the area in front of this gate stood the Pınarbaşı Mevlevi Lodge, the Uzbeks' Lodge, the Kalenderhane, and coffeehouses. It was also the festival ground of the people of Bursa. The Conquest Gate was built so as to control and protect the Pınarbaşı water flowing into the city.
