Editor's Note
The soup kitchen takes its name from the grave on its east side, known to belong to Eskici Mehmet Dede. Its date of construction and its patron are unknown. Although there is no definite information in historical sources about the building's function, the prevailing view is that it was part of a larger complex and was used for social purposes (as a soup kitchen). The Eskici Mehmet Dede Soup Kitchen consists of two separate structures. The first, monumental structure is square in plan and covered by a dome. The other is a two-story example of vernacular architecture beside it.
