Editor's Note
It was built by İbrahim Pasha, son of Çandarlı Hayrettin Pasha, to generate income for his charitable complex in İznik, according to his endowment deed dated AH 825 (1421). According to one account, because the magistrate's residence was located in the neighborhood where the building stood, the neighborhood, the bath, and the mosque also came to be known by the name "Mahkeme" (Court). The bath was built as a double bath, with separate sections for men and women. Each section consists of a changing room, a warm room, a private chamber, a water tank, and a furnace room.
