Editor's Note
It stands in the village of Alemdar. The church was commissioned by Alexios Komnenos, Prince of Trebizond, in the first half of the 14th century, then repaired around 1509 by the monk Ananias and in 1624 by Georgios Stratilatis. It also bears an inscription recording a restoration during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II (1876–1909). The monastery, set on ground levelled out of a sloping site at the village entrance, comprises a church, a chapel and other buildings, and has come down to us in a heavily ruined state. Apart from the east and south body walls and part of the north façade, all the architectural elements of the church have collapsed.
