Canca Castle, which also features in Evliya Çelebi's famous work the Seyahatname (Book of Travels), stands near Vank Village (Süleymaniye Quarter) atop a mountain commanding the valley known as Kale Deresi. Sources offer no firm information on when the castle was built, though the region is known to have been densely settled in the Hittite, Roman and Byzantine periods. Set at an altitude of 1,530 metres, the castle contains a water cistern.
