Karamanoğlu Pir Ahmet Bey, who is buried in the tomb in the village of Pirahmet in the central district on the Gümüşhane–Erzincan highway, lost the struggle he waged against his maternal cousin Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. He took refuge with Uzun Hasan, who granted him the Bayburt and Gümüşhane region as a fief; he made this region his home and died in 1474 in the village that was named after him.
