The sources record that construction began when Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror came to Şebinkarahisar on 29 August 1473, after winning the Battle of Otlukbeli, and was completed in five years. It is stated that the mosque was first built of wood, burned down twice, and was rebuilt in stone after these fires. The sources note that the present Fatih Mosque was built in 1888 by Rasih and Mahmut Pashas.
