Dereköy Castle lies on a strategic road that runs through a valley and connects the Pazar district to Sivas province via Artova. This road, running north to south, passes to the west of the castle, which commands the narrow, deep valley that carries this connection. The Keten Stream flows to the south of the castle and, after passing below the stepped tunnel in the rocky area to the east of the castle, curves westward.
