Editor's Note
There is no inscription recording the building's date; however, the fact that it stands within Çorum Castle and is still known today as the 'Alaaddin Mosque' or 'Alaaddin Masjid' suggests that it was built around the middle of the 13th century by Sultan Alaaddin Keykubad I (1220-1237), one of the Anatolian Seljuk sultans. Originally built as a masjid, it was later converted into a mosque. In 1577 the mosque, together with the castle, was repaired by Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent.
