Editor's Note
Sapinuva lies about 3 km southwest of the town of Ortakoy, 53 km southeast of Corum. It was one of the most important Hittite cities of the imperial period. It has been excavated since 1990 by a team led by Aygul and Mustafa Suel of Ankara University. Among many finds, the excavations uncovered an archive of about 4,000 tablets dated to the 14th century B.C., the largest surviving Hittite archive after Bogazkoy. The remains of the city, which also includes the foundations of many buildings, are spread over an area of 9 square kilometers.
