Although its exact construction date is uncertain, sources agree that it was built in the second half of the 15th century. It belongs to the lantern-domed type of mosque and is thought to take its name from the centuries-old plane tree in its garden. According to local historian Mehmet Goktekin (1900-1977), the mosque's founder, Sungur Pasha, was the son of Saadettin Bey of Amasya.
