Editor's Note
The village, formerly named Kilise (Church), took its name from an old Byzantine church that was demolished during the time of Iskender Bey, one of the Candaroglu lords (second half of the 15th century), and a mosque was built on the same site. This mosque has undergone several restorations over the years, and in 2007 it was thoroughly restored to its original form by the General Directorate of Foundations. Other sources also state that it was converted directly from a church into a mosque. Given the reused column capitals at its entrance, we can likely conclude that this old church was demolished and the ruins left behind were used in the mosque's construction.
