Editor's Note
It is first mentioned in known modern sources in 1872. In 1978, the remains of the theatre were discovered during construction excavations on the land behind today's ferry pier. The theatre of Apameia was built in the Hellenic style. According to a marble inscription that hung on the theatre wall, dated AD 69-79, the theatre was repaired. Today, however, very little remains of the theatre and the ancient city.
