The monastery is located on Mutlu/Manastir Island, the second-largest island in Lake Uluabat. The structure is thought to have been built between the 9th and 10th centuries and to have undergone a major restoration in the late 18th to early 19th century (Karacan, 2009, 63). S. Gerlach, who visited the island in the 16th century, reported that the church was dedicated to Saint Constantine and that 6-7 monks lived there (Nilufer Municipality).
